Start a new website: Part 1

This is the first part in a small series on how to start a new website. It will cover some  basic information only but I hope someone will find it useful.

Part 1: Get a Domain

The domain name is the first thing to get then starting up a new website. I prefer to get my name from either Namecheap.com or godaddy.com as I have found them best. But if you are looking for some country specific domain such as .se or .no for example you can not use them, instead you have to find a register that can register them for you.

The Name:

I prefer to have my domain-names as easy as possible to remember but most of the best names are already taken so you have to be creative and think of something catchy.  If you are getting a personal blog, you could use something with your name in it, annasblog.com or something like that. I also prefer ,if possible, to use a .com domain for a site that targets English speaking people. If you only write in a other language target towards a country try to use a country specific domain such as .se if you write in Swedish. Also a shorter name is usually better than a longer one.
